ಪ್ರೇಮ ಪುರಾಣದ 'ನೂರೊಂದು ನೆನಪು'ಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ವಿಮರ್ಶಕರಿಗೆ ಇಷ್ಟವಾಗಿದ್ದೇನು?

ವಿಭಿನ್ನ ಪ್ರೇಮ ಕತೆಯನ್ನು ನಿಧಾನವಾಗಿ, ಸಾಧ್ಯವಾದಷ್ಟು ಸುಂದರವಾಗಿ ಚೊಚ್ಚಲ ಚಿತ್ರದಲ್ಲೇ ಹೇಳಿ ಯಶಸ್ವಿ ಆಗಿದ್ದಾರೆ ನಿರ್ದೇಶಕ ಕುಮಾರೇಶ್. 80ರ ದಶಕದ ಕತೆಗೆ ಆ ಕಾಲಘಟ್ಟಕ್ಕೆ ಅನುಗುಣವಾಗಿ ಎಲ್ಲವನ್ನೂ ಸೃಷ್ಟಿಸಿದ್ದು ನಿರ್ದೇಶಕರ ಸೃಜನಶೀಲತೆಗೆ ಹಿಡಿದ ಕನ್ನಡಿ. ಪಾತ್ರಗಳ ಆಯ್ಕೆಯಲ್ಲೂ ಅವರು ಗೆದ್ದಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಸಂಭಾಷಣೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಗಟ್ಟಿತನದ ಕೊರತೆ ಇದೆ. ಕತೆಯ ಓಟಕ್ಕೆ ತುಸು
ಚುರುಕು ಬೇಕಿತ್ತು. ಚೇತನ್ ತಮ್ಮ ಪಾತ್ರಕ್ಕೆ ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ನ್ಯಾಯ ಒದಗಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಎಸ್‌.ಕೆ.ರಾವ್ ಕ್ಯಾಮೆರಾ 80ರ ದಶಕದ ಕತೆಗೆ ಹೊಂದಿಕೆಯಾಗುವಂತೆಯೇ ಸನ್ನಿವೇಶಗಳನ್ನು ಸೆರೆ ಹಿಡಿದಿದೆ. ಗಗನ್ ಬದೇರಿಯಾ ಸಂಗೀತ ತುಸು ಸಪ್ಪೆ ಅನಿಸಿದರೂ ಒಂದು ಹಾಡು ಇಂಪಾಗಿದೆ. ಮನೆಮಂದಿಯಲ್ಲ ನೋಡಬಹುದಾದ ಪ್ರೇಮಚಿತ್ರವಿದು.

ನಿಧಾನವೇ ಪ್ರಧಾನ; ಪ್ರಯಾಸದ ಪ್ರಯಾಣ- ಪ್ರಜಾವಾಣಿ

ಯಾವುದೇ ರಾಗ-ದ್ವೇಷ, ಭಾವೋದ್ವೇಗವಿಲ್ಲದೆ ಕಥೆ ಹೇಳಬೇಕು ಎಂದು ನಿರ್ದೇಶಕರು ಅಂದುಕೊಂಡಂತಿದೆ. ಆದ್ದರಿಂದ ನಿರೂಪಣೆ ಸಪ್ಪೆಯಾಗಿ ಸಾಗಿದೆ. ದೃಶ್ಯಾವಳಿಗಳು ನಿಧಾನ ಗತಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಓಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದರೂ ನೋಡುಗನ ಮನದಾಳದಲ್ಲಿ ಯಾವ ಭಾವಗಳೂ ಮೂಡುವುದಿಲ್ಲ. ನಿರ್ದೇಶಕರು ಸಿನಿಮಾದ ಸಾಧ್ಯತೆಗಳನ್ನು ಕೈಚೆಲ್ಲಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಕಣ್ಮುಚ್ಚಿ ಕೂತು ರೇಡಿಯೋದಲ್ಲಿ ಬರುವ ಕಥೆ ಕೇಳುವಷ್ಟೇ ಅನಾಯಾಸವಾಗಿ ಸಿನಿಮಾವನ್ನೂ ಕೇಳಬಹುದು. ಸಂಗೀತ ಮತ್ತು ಛಾಯಾಗ್ರಹಣ ಗಮನ ಸೆಳೆಯುತ್ತದೆ. ನಟನೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಎಲ್ಲರೂ ಖುಷಿ ನೀಡುತ್ತಾರೆ. ನಾಯಕನಿಗೆ ಹೆಚ್ಚು ಪ್ರಾಮುಖ್ಯತೆ ನೀಡಿ ಉಳಿದ ಪಾತ್ರಗಳನ್ನು ನಗಣ್ಯ ಮಾಡುವ ಚಾಳಿ ಇಲ್ಲಿಲ್ಲ. ಎಲ್ಲ ಮುಖ್ಯ ಪಾತ್ರಗಳಿಗೆ ಸಮಾನ ಅವಕಾಶ ನೀಡಲಾಗಿದೆ - ಗಣೇಶ ವೈದ್ಯ

ನಟರ ಉಡುಗೆತೊಡುಗೆಗಳಲ್ಲಿ 80 ರ ದಶಕದ ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳ ನಮೂನೆಯನ್ನು ಸೆರೆಹಿಡಿದಿದ್ದರೂ, ಆ ಕಾಲವನ್ನು ಸೃಷ್ಟಿಸಲು, ಘಟನೆಗಳನ್ನು ಹೆಣೆಯಲು ನಿರ್ದೇಶಕ ಸೋತಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಹಾಗೆ ಸ್ವಲ್ಪ ನಿರಾಸೆ ಮೂಡಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಕಾಲೇಜು ಲವಲವಿಕೆಯನ್ನು ಪರಿಣಾಮಕಾರಿಯಾಗಿ, ಸ್ವಾಭಾವಿಕವಾಗಿ ಚಿತ್ರಿಸಲು ನಿರ್ದೇಶಕನಿಗೆ ಸಾಧ್ಯವಾಗಿಲ್ಲ. ಗೆಳೆತನದ ಘಟನೆಗಳು ಮತ್ತು ದೃಶ್ಯಗಳು ಕೂಡ ಅತಿ ಸಾಮಾನ್ಯ ಎಂಬಂತೆ ಮೂಡಿವೆ. ತಾಂತ್ರಿಕವಾಗಿ ಒಂದಷ್ಟು ಭರವಸೆ ಮೂಡಿಸಿದೆ. ಸಂಭಾಷಣೆ ತೀವ್ರ ಭೋಧನೆಯ ಸ್ವರೂಪ ತಳೆಯುವುದು, ಬಹಳ ನಿಧಾನವಾಗಿ ಚಲಿಸುವ ಆಕ್ಷನ್ ದೃಶ್ಯಗಳು, ಕೆಲವೊಮ್ಮೆ ಸರಾಗತನ ಇಲ್ಲದ ಸಂಕಲನ ಹೀಗೆ ಇನ್ನೊಂದಷ್ಟು ಅಡಚಣೆಗಳು ಕೂಡ ಸಿನೆಮಾದಲ್ಲಿ ಸೇರಿವೆ.

In the film soul of the narrative has something that entertains, the pace of the narrative proves to be a tad slow at times, making the viewers restless at those moments. One of the biggest draws for the film is the good looking cast, as well as their styling. One can't but appreciate the hard work that has gone in behind this. The film also has some catchy tunes and good background music. There are a few things that one can nitpick, like some factual errors, where the film set in 1980 has references to much later released films like Bandana and Hosa Belaku. But, these can be overlooked. The story has some good moments and the hard work behind the screen shows. The cast does a good job, especially Chetan, although his American accent slips in at times. Meghana Raj and newbie Rajvardhan also do a good job.

The problem is with the narrative technique which lacks refinement and makes the film look like a spoof of that era. The story has the strength of an 80s' drama but the slow-paced storytelling leaves you bored and tired. Each of the characters has its own strength and you can sense that they have a good background story. But with each actor getting bits and pieces of screen space, they are not defined well and the film's story, as a whole, does not gel well. Screenplay and scenes make no other effort to showcase it as a period film. The film has a few good things including the restrained acting by all the performers, apt if not mesmerising background score and lyrics that are top class.
