'ನಾನು ಮತ್ತು ವರಲಕ್ಷ್ಮೀ' ಸಿನಿಮಾಗೆ ವಿಮರ್ಶಕರು ಏನಂದ್ರು?..

ಪ್ರಯಾಸಕರ ಬೈಕ್‌ ಸವಾರಿ -ಪ್ರಜಾವಾಣಿ

‘ಬಾಕ್ಸರ್‌' ಚಿತ್ರದ ಮೂಲಕ ಆಕ್ಷನ್ ಕಟ್ ಪ್ರಯೋಗ ನಡೆಸಿದ್ದ ನಿರ್ದೇಶಕ ಪ್ರೀತಂ ಗುಬ್ಬಿ, ‘ನಾನು ಮತ್ತು ವರಲಕ್ಷ್ಮಿ'ಯಲ್ಲಿ ತಮ್ಮ ಹಿಂದಿನ ಶೈಲಿಗೆ ಮರಳಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಕಥೆ ಹೇಳುವ ಶೈಲಿ ಮಾತ್ರವಲ್ಲ, ಸನ್ನಿವೇಶಗಳೂ ಅವರ ‘ಹಾಗೆ ಸುಮ್ಮನೆ', ‘ಜಾನು' ಚಿತ್ರಗಳ ಛಾಯೆಯನ್ನು ತೋರಿಸುತ್ತವೆ. ಅವರ ಸಿನಿಮಾಗಳು ಸಾಮಾನ್ಯವಾಗಿ ಪಯಣದ ಹಂದರವನ್ನು ನೆಚ್ಚಿಕೊಂಡಿರುತ್ತವೆ. ಇಲ್ಲಿಯೂ ಅದು ನಾಯಕ-ನಾಯಕಿಯನ್ನು ಬೆಸೆಯುವ ನೆಪದಲ್ಲಿ ಕೂಡಿಕೊಂಡಿದೆ. ಪಯಣದ ನಡುವೆ ಸಿಗುವ ಗಂಡ-ಹೆಂಡತಿಯ (ಸುಚೇಂದ್ರ ಪ್ರಸಾದ್‌ ಮತ್ತು ಸಂಗೀತಾ) ಸಂಬಂಧದ ಚಿತ್ರಣ ಹೆಚ್ಚು ಆಪ್ತವೆನಿಸುತ್ತದೆ. ಈ ಭಾವತೀವ್ರತೆ ಮತ್ತೊಂದು ವಯಸ್ಕ ಜೋಡಿಯ ಸಂಬಂಧದ ಚಿತ್ರಣದಲ್ಲಿ ಪರಿಣಾಮಕಾರಿಯಾಗಿಲ್ಲ. ಹುಡುಗಾಟಿಕೆಯ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿತ್ವದ ಯುವಕ ಪ್ರೀತಿಯನ್ನು ಗಂಭೀರವಾಗಿ ಸ್ವೀಕರಿಸುವ ಮತ್ತು ಅದನ್ನು ಉಳಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳಲು ಹೋರಾಡುವ ತೆಳು ಕಥೆಯನ್ನು ಹೇಳುವಲ್ಲಿ ನಿರ್ದೇಶಕರ ಅನುಕೂಲ ಸಿಂಧುತ್ವ ಕಾಣಿಸುತ್ತದೆ. ಬೈಕ್ ಸವಾರನ ಪ್ರಯಾಸದ ಜರ್ನಿ - ವಿಜಯವಾಣಿ

ಒಂದೆರಡು ಹಾಡುಗಳು, ಕೊಂಚ ಕಾಮಿಡಿ ಸನ್ನಿವೇಶಗಳು ಹಾಗೂ ಆಕ್ಷನ್ ಸನ್ನಿವೇಶಗಳಿದ್ದರೂ ಸಹ, ಮೊದಲಾರ್ಧ ನಿಧಾನಗತಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಸಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಕಥೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಹೊಸತನದ ಕೊರತೆ ಹಾಗೂ ನಿಧಾನಗತಿಯ ಚಿತ್ರಕಥೆಯಿಂದಾಗಿ ಮೊದಲಾರ್ಧ ಮುಗಿಯುವಷ್ಟರ ಹೊತ್ತಿಗೆ ಪ್ರೇಕ್ಷಕ ಒಂದು ಸಣ್ಣ ನಿದ್ದೆಗೆ ಜಾರಿ ವಾಪಸಾಗುತ್ತಾನೆ. ಸಿನಿಮಾಗೆ ವೇಗ ಸಿಗುವುದು ಪ್ರಕಾಶ್ ರೈ ಆಗಮನದ ನಂತರ. ಬೈಕ್ ರೇಸ್ ತರಬೇತುದಾರರಾಗಿ ಕಾಣಿಸಿಕೊಂಡಿರುವ ಪ್ರಕಾಶ್ ರೈ, ರೇಸ್ ಆಡಿ ಸುಸ್ತಾದ ಪ್ರೇಕ್ಷಕರಿಗೆ ಎನರ್ಜಿ ಡ್ರಿಂಕ್ ಕೊಡುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಪಾತ್ರಕ್ಕೆ ಬೇಕಾದ ಬಾಡಿ ಲಾಂಗ್ವೇಜ್ ಪೃಥ್ವಿಗಿದೆ. ಮೊದಲ ಚಿತ್ರವಾಗಿರುವುದರಿಂದ ಹೇಳಿಕೊಟ್ಟ ಸಂಭಾಷಣೆಗಳನ್ನು ಕಂಠಪಾಠ ಮಾಡಿ ಒಪ್ಪಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಡಾನ್ಸ್ ಹಾಗೂ ಆಕ್ಷನ್ ಸನ್ನಿವೇಶಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ತಕ್ಕ ಮಟ್ಟಿಗೆ ಗಮನ ಸೆಳೆಯುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಆದರೆ ನಟನೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಸಾಕಷ್ಟು ಪಳಗಬೇಕಿದೆ. ಮಧು ಪಾತ್ರದಲ್ಲಿ ಅಂತಹ ಗಟ್ಟಿತನವಿಲ್ಲ ಎನ್ನಬಹುದು. ನಾಯಕಿ ಮಾಳವಿಕಾ ನಟನೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಇನ್ನೂ ಪಳಗಬೇಕು.

Naanu Mattu Varalakshmi gets to high octane racing after a slow start -The New Indian Express

Preetham Gubbi's latest, Naanu Mattu Varalakshmi, seems to be a result of the director allowing himself to be influenced by his fears, that of sticking on to his passion for love. And knowing his knack with romantic subjects, he seems to have been too absorbed to give romance an elongated presence in his film. The result is a first half which is tediously slow, using the entire time to engrave his prowess with romance. The appealing segment is the next half, when Gubbi lets go of his adamancy with love and embraces some brisk paced bike racing.

The film which moves ahead on conversation needs a little patience, but there is racing that fills the gaps. It is left to the audience to choose the track of love or the bike race.

‘VARALAKSHMI’ IS A TEPID LOVE STORY THAT NEVER TAKES OFF - BangaloreMirror

It is replete with all the cliches one associates with a commercial film. The opening two scenes tell it all - first a drag race that our hero wins without a sweat; and then the ‘hero-introduction song'. From thereon it is a tepid love story that never really takes off. Colourful imagery, nicely captured racing scenes and good production values notwithstanding, it is boring. It never feels like it is moving forward as the changes from one scene to the next lacks flow. The cinematography and music cannot salvage the film. Prithvi is not bad, but not good enough to carry the film. A rigid body language and flat dialogue delivery stunts the character.

While a couple of characters are fleshed out to add support, the roles played by Madhoo and Prakash Rai are cardboard stuff.
